About this piece

Allemande is a dramatic Baroque piece by George Frideric Handel (1685–1759). There is one arrangement: Easy (level 2 of 5), 1:00 long, in A minor. In the app it belongs to the Dances collection. Note the pickup: the music starts with an upbeat before the first full bar, so count yourself in before the first note.

About George Frideric Handel (1685–1759): German-born Baroque composer who made his career in London. Best known for Messiah, he also wrote keyboard suites, sonatinas and dances that work well on the piano.

How to play Allemande on piano

  1. Learn each hand on its own before putting them together. In the app, choose Left or Right and the other hand plays for you, so you still hear the whole piece.
  2. Use Wait mode for the first few runs, then play along at 50% speed with the count-in.
  3. Work in short sections of four to eight bars rather than always starting from the top.
  4. It's a fast piece. Resist playing it at full tempo until it's accurate at a slower one; speed built on wrong notes doesn't last.
  5. Feel the dance: tap the rhythm of the first bars before you play, and give the first beat of each bar a little more weight.
  6. Short daily sessions beat one long weekly one. Ten focused minutes a day is enough to make steady progress.

In the PianoKite app you can learn it with your own digital piano over Bluetooth or USB, or with any piano through the microphone: the score scrolls past a playhead, the keys light up, and every bar gets a score so you can see what's learned.
